5 signs your cooling system may be faulty

A moment after the vehicle is turned on, the engine starts to run at very high temperatures. If it wasn't for the cooling system, the engine would literally melt. For this reason, it is important to always pay attention to symptoms of problems with the radiator and cooling system. Here are 5 symptoms to look out for. If you encounter any of these problems, don't wait to contact your auto repair shop to schedule a cooling system service.

The smoke from under the hood

White vapor coming from under the hood is a sign that your car is currently overheating. Stop when it's safe to do so to prevent further damage. Check with your auto mechanic to find out if it's safe to drive or if towing is necessary. The answer may depend on the symptoms you describe to the mechanic.

Rising temperature indicator

Your car's dashboard has many indicators and lamps that keep you informed about the current operation of your car. One of them informs about the engine operating temperature. If you notice that the thermometer is approaching a hot zone, you'll want to pull over to the side of the road to let the car rest before it starts to overheat completely.

Low coolant levels

Check the fluid levels in the car from time to time, including the coolant. Only do this when the engine is cool. If you notice that the coolant level is low, it could be a sign of a leak that will cause one of the next two problems.

Visible coolant leak

The coolant is generally light green in color and smells very sweet. If you find a leak, clean it and contact a mechanic immediately. Insufficient coolant level will surely lead to overheating problems.

White exhaust smoke

If coolant leaks inside the engine, it can burn in the combustion chamber. In this case, your car will start producing an excessive amount of white exhaust gas.
